Matt Kaylor

Q: What made you decide to be a college wrestling coach?
A: Following the conclusion of my college career at Binghamton, I could not imagine myself being away from the sport that had become such a big part of my life. I feel as though I have not just a passion, but an obligation to pass on the things the sport has taught me to younger athletes navigating through the world of wrestling. I think about the coaches throughout my career and hope I can make even a fraction of the impact they had on athletes I come into contact with.

Q: What is your favorite style of wrestling to coach? Why?
A: I have only really coached collegiate style which is my favorite so far, but I wrestled a large amount of Freestyle and especially Greco-Roman so I look forward to coaching the other two styles as well.

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a coach? As a wrestler?
A: As a wrestler I would say either going to NCAAs twice or the two big home Binghamton duals my senior year against Oklahoma and Cornell. As a coach it would be Cody Reed winning the CAA championship last year to qualify for nationals.

Q: When did you start wrestling as a kid and who pushed you the most throughout your career?
A: I began wrestling in first grade, and although my father and club coach Joe DeMeo were huge influences on me, my mom was always steadfast pushing me throughout my career.

Q: What is your favorite wrestling movie?
A: You can't top Matthew Modine in Vision Quest, the Head coach wearing polos under his singlet for practice is classic.

Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team:
A: NY Football Giants or New York Yankees

Q: What is your favorite TV Show?
A: East Bound & Down

Q: What is the last book you've read?
A: Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell

Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Bread Pudding

Q: What is your favorite Raleigh-area restaurant so far?
A: Haven't been to many yet but catering by Backyard Bistro was very good.
